It seems people are "dying" to get in but the City Of London cemetery is running out of space. It's only understandable because the 80 hectacre cemetery was first started in 1854 in Manor Park, East London. But rather do the right thing by turning people away or telling people do get cremated, they are re-cycling burial plots - as I said - only one very careful owner.
They are offering second-hand graves, complete with "deceased resident" and with refurbished headstone. The names of the dead are simply scoured from from the headstone to allow new inscriptions. They are advertising the 1000 plots as "traditional style graves" of people who have been dead at least 75 years. The plots, which are said to be deep enough to take another "deceased resident" are to be adopted at a cost of 3000 pound for 50 years. Whats to stop the London Cemetery at the supposed end of 50 years adoption, refurbishing them again and building overground catacombs and burying someone on top of the ground ???
They call it Adopting ? Buy ? Lease ? Whatever you want to call it, there's only 2 words for it - "bloody morbid" !!! You will have people turning in their graves. It could be someone's great great relation and when they come to do a "family tree", will find someone else burried in the plot and no name on the gravestone. No doubt they will keep a record of the name/s they scoure off the headstones, but what if a "long lost relative" turns up in 5 years time or ten years time or what-ever looking for their "family bones" only to find someone else burried in the grave !!! If it was me, I would kick up such a hell of a stink, they would have to dig up up the new deceased and redo the inscription that was on the headstone in the first place. Relatives of the deceased would of purchased the plot in good-faith and now they are going to adopt the plots out !!!
I hope "ghosts" rise to the occassion and scare the shit out of them !!! (hehe)
