First Pizzly Shot !!!
An American hunter in Canada's far north may have killed the first wild grizzle-polar bear cross. Jim Martell shot the animal described by media as a pizzly; grolar bear or polargrizz, on Banks Island. It had thick white fur, but its long calws, humped back, shallow face and brown patches around its eyes, nose, back and on one foot are grizzly traits. Hybrids have been born in captivity, but this is likely the first of a mixed breed in the wild.
Maori Bones To Be Reburied.
A Marlborough iwi hopes the 600 year old remains of 53 ancestors will be returned by the Canterbury museum, for reburial within a year. The iwi had accused the museum of stealing the remains of 53 moa hunters and more than 1800 artefacts from grave sites at the mouth of the Wairau River, near Blenheim. The remains were first unearted in 1939, by a 13 year old boy. He later joined Roger Duff from the Canterbury museum on a series of excavations that lasted until 1964.
Not Guilty !!!
The golden rule when you go out hunting in the bush, is that you should always identify your target before pulling the trigger !!!
A 50 year old man on trial for carelessly using a firearm, causing the death of another man was found not guilty. The two friends who had been hunting companions for 35 years, had been tracking deer for 3 hours on April 2nd, 2005 when they heard a stag roar. The pair separated, moving out of sight of each other, intending to track the stag and shoot it. But.......less than 20 metres from what he thought was a stag with antlers, he fired a shot - it wasn't the stag he shot in the head - it his friend he shoot in the head, killing him instantly. He not only lost a friend but a family lost a husband & a father !!! All because the golden rule of shooting was broken !!!
Parachutist Cuts Cord !!!
A British parachutist who underwent an intensive beginers parachute course, died on his first solo jump from 1065 metres. His parachute opened normally, but he was seen to remove his helmet, (which had a built in radio to speak to his instructor on the ground) and cut the cords on his parachute. Onlookers saw him plunge to the ground, where he died instantly. He grew up in London, but had lived in New Zealand, for a number of years.
Next Job - War Crimes !!!
Dame Silvia Cartwright currently the Governor General of NZ, will next month have a new job as one of the two international judges for the Cambodia War Crimes Tribunal.Three Cambodian judges will also be in the trial chamber, conducting trials under the tribunal. The tribunal will look into war crimes committed between 1975 - 1979. An estimated 1.7 million Cambodians died from starvation, overwork and execution during the period. Pol Pot died in 1998 and none of his regime has been tried for crimes against humanity. The actual trials are expected to begin in 2007.
Over The Speed Limit !!!
Q. What happens, when you get caught speeding with your two hands on the wheel ? A. You usually end up with a fine - the amount of which, depends on how fast you were going over the speed limit. Okay, answer this - what happens when you get caught speeding, doing 121 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre per hour zone, with "no hands on the wheel" ? You end up getting a fine of $170 plus you could end up getting charge with dangerous driving, which carries a maximum penalty of $4500 or 3 months jail !!! Not very nice is it, especially when you haven't even got a license to drive, plus..........wait for it - you are driving with your feet. I kid you not. When he got caught on radar, he was doing 121km. When he was pulled over, he was reclining back in his seat, with one foot on the dash. It turns out that he always drove using his feet - one to steer and the other to operate the brake & accelarator. He even had 2 passengers in the car, one of whom had a drivers license and could of put their two hands to the steering wheel, so to speak. He certainly could not put his two hands to the wheel, thats why he was driving using his feet !!! Look Ma - no hands !!! It turns out, that he was born without arms - thats why he was driving with his feet and had been doing so for years. Only in NZ ? Does it happen in your country ?
There is "black" in our rainbow !!!
A Sad Tale !!!
Firstly - how many know what timber drying kilns are ? The only way to describe it, is like a big gas chamber, but only in this case it was steam that was been used to dry the timber, not gas. The chamber would of been I suppose about 15 feet high by about 60 feet long - big enough to get lost in, especially if its night-time as there are no lights. The timber is stacked on 2 to 3 big trolleys which are pushed into the chamber - the doors are shut & sealed and the steam, which has been heated to 100's of degrees is released from the boilers into the chambers, which make them like a huge oven. Two or three times during the process (which could take anywhere from 8 hours or more) the steam is turned off, the doors are opened and a reading taken of the dryness of the timber.
Now comes the sad part - a few years ago, a teenage boy visited his relation at the timber mill, who was doing the nightshift in the kilns. The kilns had been opened to test the timber - the timber still wasn't dry enough, so the doors were shut, sealed and the steam turned back on !!! Unbeknown to the relation the teenage boy had gone into the kiln !!! By the time the relation suddenly realised, when he couldn't find the teenager, it was too late !!! The boy was "dead" from the extreme heat, when the steam was turned off and the doors finally opened. But...the really sad part about it all, was that the teenage boy was one of triplets of boys.
Sad - but true !!!
